It Takes a Village Community Organization was founded to break down the barriers that prevent individuals from thriving, especially in low-income and underserved communities. Our nonprofit provides a safe and supportive environment where individuals can access vital resources, including employment assistance, mentorship, therapy, counseling, and skills-building workshops. We aim to address the lack of equitable access to these essential services, which often perpetuates cycles of poverty, mental health challenges, and limited opportunities for personal and professional growth.
What makes us unique is our holistic approach—providing not only practical support but also emotional and psychological resources to ensure that individuals can improve their quality of life on multiple levels. We believe that community is the key to lasting change, which is why we emphasize the importance of collective support through our model, It Takes A Village. By creating safe spaces and empowering individuals, we foster a sense of belonging and encourage sustainable, long-term growth for the people we serve.
Malika Hollins is a mother of many but 3 that hold a Speacial place in her heart. Alexis, Jahzae, and Khyell. Let’s not forget her Glam daughter E'Laijah and her 4 God children Tre'Von , Ori'Yana, De'Andre and Le'anah.
Malika's goal is to open up a safe-haven home for youth and young adults who are less fortunate with limited options. This vision is a passionate testament of a woman dedicated to her community and the well-being of others who also grew up with challenges that could have otherwise placed her on a destructive path. However, what she did was turn the trauma into a purpose. Malika volunteered for the Compassion Project, which is an organization established in 2008, which provides unconditional love to families who have been stricken with the loss of a child. She helps to provide hope, humanity, comfort, food, water, and prayer to grief-stricken families at their home and sometimes at the scene of the homicide. Some of those victims were family members and friends.
Discovering the additional need for financial support of these families, she started organizing fundraisers, which has helped over 100 families bury their loved ones. Now, Malika has taken on the role of the village from firsthand experience, and not simply by name. Malika now has her own non-profit, "It Takes A Village Community Organization," She is definitely THE VILLAGE..
It Takes a Village Community Organization was officially founded in 2021, but my journey of helping others began much earlier. In 1994-1995, I started supporting families affected by gun violence, domestic violence, and abuse, helping them raise money to cover funeral expenses for their loved ones. I organized fundraisers, car washes, sold food, and collected donations—all on a volunteer basis. In 2018, I created Stacks Café as an extension of my efforts, as I often prepared and provided food for repasts or receptions following home going services. Now, we are actively giving back to our communities and offering support and guidance.
At ITAVCO, we believe in the power of community. Our It Takes A Village model fosters collective action and inclusiveness, creating a supportive network that helps individuals thrive. By emphasizing the importance of belonging, we inspire long-term, meaningful change.
